The new Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Castelo Branco has been awarded by Águas do Centro to the consortium composed of Mota-Engil Engenharia (54.2%) and Degremont (45.8%). With an expected completion time of 18 months, this design/construction contract is valued in around 10.37 million euros and the consignment is scheduled for July 13. This WWTP will replace the two treatment plants presently located in South and North entrances of the city and will be able to treat the effluents of more than 95,000 inhabitants. The new water infrastructure will have an area of 27,000 m2. Works include 75,000 m3 of excavation and some 7000 m3 of concrete, 1436 tons of steel and 20,400 m2 of formwork will be used. Meanwhile, the construction of a pumping station is also planned in the current northern WWTP, in order to route the sewage treated there to the new structure, as well as the connection of the current sewer from the current southern WWTP to the future WWTP.
