28 April 2011 No Comment

Mota-Engil Pavimentações completed the paving of the section 2 – road junction A32/A41/Aguiar de Sousa of the A41, a lot belonging to the Concession of Douro Litoral. With a length of 8.5 km and a cross-section of 2×3 in almost all its development, the work consisted in the execution of granular layers of sub-base, base and bituminous layers. In addition to paving the open track, the toll plazas were also paved, including the interchanges of Aguiar de Sousa and Zic, and viaducts of Covelo, Bustelo and V3. The work was completed in just nine months and developed mainly in winter. Overall, about 240,000 tons of crusher run aggregate were applied in the granular layers and some 121,200 tons of bituminous mixtures, with these divided into: 58,500 tons of Macadam; 27,500 t of underlying sealing layer; 9900 t of bituminous concrete (BC); 5300 t of draining bituminous concrete; 17,500 t of rough bituminous concrete and 2500 t of sand asphalt. One of the special features of this work was the continuous execution of the surface course with rough BC and draining BC, using four teams from spreading. This technique allowed applying some 23,000 tons of bituminous mixtures for 4.5 days without “construction joints”, which improves significantly the finishing touch of the layers.
